The best way to cut down on your salt intake is to cook fresh! You’ll find below some easy recipes that are full of flavour and low in salt. They are also recipes that will store well and can be easily prepared at the beginning of the week, so you don’t have to reach for processed foods during the busy working week. Most of them are super simple so get the kids involved and cook up a storm!

Ingredients

  1. 1 TBS salt reduced tomato sauce
  2. 1/2 tsp salt reduced soy sauce
  3. 1 1/2 tsp white vinegar
  4. 400g pork fillet, trimmed of fat, cut into 2cm cubes
  5. 1/4 pineapple, peeled cut into 2-3cm pieces
  6. 1 red capsicum, seeded and cut into 2-3cm pieces
  7. 1 yellow capsicum, seeded and cut into 2-3cm pieces
  8. 1 zucchini, cut into 2-3cm pieces
  9. 1 red onion, peeled, cut into 2-3cm pieces
  10. 8 small button mushrooms
  11. 8 thick bamboo sticks
  12. olive oil spray

  1. Mix sauces and vinegar in a small bowl. Add pork, stir to coat and set aside to marinate.
  2. To prevent burning, cover skewers in a shallow bowl with water
  3. Preheat barbecue grill on high heat
  4. Thread pork and vegetables alternatively onto skewers, ending with mushrooms
  5. Spray skewers with oil and barbecue each side for 2 minutes until pork is cooked through, basting kebabs with remaining marinade occasionally
